After the effort of proper cooking yesterday, today was Sunday and things were on minimum effort mode.   Sometimes, either through working hard during the week, partying too hard at the weekend, or just because, it's time for something with no thrills, frills or spills; something that is reminiscent of childhood and that shouts 'I CAN'T BE BOTHERED!' , it's time to change tact.    When that happens, it's time to reach into the freezer.    Frozen food can be an absolute delight when in the right mood and more often than not, hits the spot.    Tonight's supper was no exception.

We had a fish burger type thing in our freezer, which, if I'm totally honest, was out of date and had been salvaged once wasted at the shop.   Things going out of date is inevitable in any village shop, no matter how successful or not it is.   As a small shop it simply does not have the customer flow that a supermarket has to ensure that everything sells through.   As a result, we have an army of volunteers at the shop that date check everything to ensure anything that is on it's date is taken off the shelves.   From there it is 'wasted' which means that it is recorded for our information and then it has a number of options depending on the food stuff.   Some of our meat is sale or return which means it's easy for it to be returned to the supplier who will then credit us the cost of the product.   Meat from Greenfields, Oaktrack or the fresh meat we have can be frozen if taken off the shelves the day before it's use by date and sold frozen.    If it's things like crisps, chocolate, cake or tinned goods which have a 'best before' date, these are generally reduced and put in our Bargain Bin.    If they are not brought from there then they are given to James Place a charity in Andover which is a Day Care Centre for adults with varying levels of disability.  They take whatever we can give them and make meals with the food we would otherwise waste.   https://www.james-place.org/

Occasionally, the staff take home things that have been wasted, like a fish burger that had been in our freezer too long and that is what I delighted Mr M with this evening.    To pair this lovely thing that the village did not want to eat, we cut up some potatoes and roasted them to make very rustic chips and had my favourite of frozen veg, peas accompanied with a healthy splirt of Tommy Ketch.

It was absolutely delicious!
